Challenge: Needle and Thread

Hello and welcome to a new challenge!

This fortnight we want to see what you can rustle up when faced with the words, "Needle and Thread." I have to admit that I freaked at these words at first, but once you think about it, this challenge is open to lots of cheating interpretation....*wink*

Now I was not about to get reacquainted with Machiney (my neglected sewing machine): my time restraints and our explosive love/hate relationship meant I had to save a date with Machiney for another time. However, I did still use a needle and thread for my card:

Card Deets
{Love You}
Stamps: Sentiment from Modern Basics (Papertrey Ink)
Ink: Tuxedo Black (Memento)
Cardstock: Vintage Cream, Twine (Papertrey Ink)
Accessories: Baker's Twine (Papertrey Ink)

Well I guess it's still using a needle and thread if you substitute needle for paper piercer and thread for baker's twine that is! :)

Over to Kate: "You know the great thing about challenges? They make you dig out sets you'd totally forgotten about! As I was rooting through my PTI sets looking for some inspiration for this challenge I came across my Studio Style and Quilter's Sampler sets - unused for (ahem) a very long time! I had such fun with card, CAS, lots of white and zingy colours - my favourite things!"

Card Details:
Stamps: Studio Style/Quilters Sampler (PTI)
Card: Stamper's Select White (PTI)
Ink: Raspberry Fizz/Summer Sunrise/Hawai'in Shores/Basic Black (PTI)
Other: Corner Chomper/Small Labels Die (PTI)

Over to Caryn:

Well I have to agree with Kate - this challenge got me reaching for sets that haven't seen the light of day for some time! My sewing machine has somehow been relegated to the loft (thanks darling husband!) so I decided to rely on the "faux stitching" technique for my card. I also MADE myself step away from my comfort zone colours (pure poppy, raspberry fizz, aqua mist) and went for Berry Sorbet.

{Card deets} - All PTI (unless otherwise stated)
Stamps: Wonderfully Whimsical
Card: Berry Sorbet, Vintage Cream
Ink: Smokey Shadow
Other: Promarkers, Berry Sorbet Satin Dots ribbon, Take Three die, butterfly punch, white gel pen.

So are you ready to join in the fun? We hope so! Up for grabs for one randomly selected European peep is this sweet stamp set:

And don't forget to check out the deets before you play along:

A Winner (Finally!)

Hello and happy Shrove Tuesday! I'm so sorry that we've been busy flipping and scoffin' pancakes that our winners post is a bit late! *wink*

Thank you to everyone who joined us with our love for stripes; we loved your creative approaches to stripes - from paper piecing stripy paper, to creating your own stripes with stamps - genius!

Well enough babbling as we're late revealing a winner already!

Do your thing, Random.org:

Here are your random numbers:

12

Timestamp: 2012-02-21 22:27:47 UTC

Number 12 means that Karen M is our winner! Congrats, Karen! Email us your postal addy to apassionforpapertrey(at)yahoo(dot)com with the subject Winner, and we'll get your prize out to ya!

And now for our Top 3. Well I know we say it every time, but it really was tough to narrow it down to just 3; not only due to the fabulous amount of entries we had, but also due to all of the different ways in which you all so cleverly incorporated stripes! After much deliberation, we decided on the following:

We loved Sue's creative approach to stripes by using a scalloped border pattern! Not only that - but the fun colour combo certainly gives this card some oomph as well! :)

Karen's sweetly paper-pieced striped houses gave us that warm, homely feeling that the card intends to do. We love the mix of both straight lines and chevron lines - rocking the lines at both angles!

Finally we totally fell for Jenny's striped tea-pot! So sweet! And not only that - but Jenny also cleverly incorporated stripes twice more by paper-piecing a fabulous gingham-style tablecloth for that sweet teapot and using the linen and canvas impression plate for the background to compliment the tablecloth!

Congrats, ladies! If you haven't got one already, drop us an email with the subject Winner for a Top 3 blinkie to blink with pride on your blog!

Now due to the late nature of this post - our challenge is going to schedule a day later too. Stay tuned tomorrow to find out what it is...!

Challenge - Stripes

Hello all and welcome to another challenge at A Passion For Papertey. We had a lovely selection of cards to choose from in our book-themed challenge - some very clever ideas came out!!

This time we're asking you to make a card or project which showcases some form of STRIPES! You could use patterned paper, card, stamps, ribbon - what ever takes your fancy! Can't wait to see what you all come up with this time round.

Caryn, Kate and Aimes.

First up is Caryn...
I was totally influenced this week by the current Tuesday Trigger Challenge over on Moxie Fab World. They have a yummy picture of a cake and I was inspired to use that as my starting point. This is what I came up with:
{Recipe} Hi
CS: Dark chocolate, Hibiscus Burst, Vintage Cream
Tools: Seeing stars dies, Block Alphabet dies, Linen/Canvas Impression plate
Ribbon: Top Notch Twill (Dark Chocolate, Sweet Blush), Solid Satin (Hibiscus Burst, Dark Chocolate), Swiss Dot (Berry Sorbet)

Funnily enough this card was made without any stamps or ink!! It's a totally tool-based card!

Over to Kate:

"I chose to make that ever-difficult card - one for the boys! I used the Chevron Stripes set to make the striped background, wow that set is so much fun to use. I hope you have as much fun with your stripes as I did!"

Card Details:
Stamps: Chevron Stripes/Fillable Frames 1
Card: Basic Black/Kraft/Vintage Cream
Ink: Basic Black/Pure Poppy/Spring Rain
Other: Fillable Frames Die 1/Border Punch

Aimes is trapped in some remote part of ice-stricken England at the moment and so I am posting one of her fabulous cards from her blog whilst we wait for her to defrost! She will be back sometime in the week with a new card for the challenge!

Card Deets {Many Thanks}
Stamps: Sentiment from Frame-It (Waltzingmouse Stamps)
Ink: Tuxedo Black (Memento)
Cardstock: White, True Black (Papertrey Ink)
Accessories: Butterfly Die (Papertrey Ink)/Grand Calibur, Circle Nestability (Spellbinders)/Pigment ink pen (Zig)

So what is up for grabs for a lucky random winner this time?

The stunning Mehndi Medallion stamp set (yum).

MR LINKY IS WITH AIMES SO PLEASE LEAVE A LINK TO YOUR CARD IN OUR COMMENTS SECTION AND WE WILL ADD IT TO MR LINKY WHEN HE GETS BACK!!

A Winner

Thank you everyone who played along this last fortnight with our literary -themed challenge.  It was a little more thought-provoking than our previous challenges but as usual you stepped up to plate and gave us a wonderful mix of cards that really captured the theme of the challenge.

The randomly picked winner this time and the lucky lady wining the Flower Fusion Set is................

NUMBER 10

That means CLAIRE is our lucky lady.  Well done hun, send us your details and we'll ge the stamps off to you.

Now onto the hardest part of every challenge - narrowing the entries down to our three favourites.  Tough as it was this time - here are three Passionistas.

Maureen - What can we say about Maureens stunning card - the colours just evoke Springtime and the sentiment is simply beautiful

Monika - Monika made great use of Nichole's Make it Monday technique of the folded banner on her stunning card.  A very elegant and feminine creation.

Sue - Sue's interpretation of the cover of the fabulous "The Help" was simply inspired.  The colours make for a bold and striking card - simple yet stunning.

Well done ladies and thank you for participating.

Make sure you pop back tomorrow for a brand new challenge.  This one will be a little more "straight"forward!!

Caryn, Aimes and Kate.
